To buy or not to buy

I'm looking at a condo and a house today. I got verbally prequalified last night with the agent. We went over my debt to income ratio and my credit score. He thinks there will be no problem with me getting a loan. I didn't think so either. I have been working on cultivating my credit for the last 5 years.

Pros and cons.

The condo. It's a one bedroom one bath. It is in the same complex as Playmate. That is a pro and a con in itself. We are growing closer and if things continue as they are, there is a very good chance we will move into together as some point. Not sure how I feel about that. Back to the condo... it is a great starter place or income property. I won't be pinned to Omaha, I could rent it out to a college student as it is close to the colleges and the med center. It would be nice to have a little something for when I retire

The house. It's a 2 bedroom 1.5 bath. It has a finished basement which amuses me. It is a big space, good for holding coffee or play space. It is more house then I need if I were living alone. It has a detached garage and a fenced yard. So I would have to mow the yard or pay someone to do it. Also, snow removal would be on me.

I could afford both of these places on my own. I wouldn't need a roommate or help to make ends meet. That was something I learned early in life. Always get a place you can afford on your own that way no matter what happens with roommates, you won't be struggling to pay the rent.

Am I about to really be a home buyer?
